History

CAAP is a GOCC created through Republic Act (R.A.) No. 94971 having jurisdiction over the restructuring of the civil aviation system as well as the promotion, development and regulation of the technical, operational, safety and aviation security functions in the Philippines.

By virtue of R.A. 9497, the Air Transportation Office (ATO) was abolished. All the powers, duties and rights vested by law and exercised by the ATO were transferred to CAAP. All assets, real and personal property, funds and revenues owned by or vested in the different offices of the ATO, including contracts, records and documents relating to the operations of the abolished ATO, its offices and branches were transferred to CAAP.

CAAP is attached to the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) for policy and program coordination.
